Office Technician

The main purpose of this job is to provide secretarial backup to the staff of the school. An office technician mainly works to support HR related functions. Administrative functions like compiling of reports, coordinating with school personnel along with evaluation or maintenance of daily operations are the main part of this job.

Skills Required

The candidate should be adept in basic arithmetic skills. Logical and analytical ability should be a strong point in her skills. Knowledge regarding policies and procedures pertaining to school infrastructure and school boards is expected.
Multitasking and people skills is an added advantage in this field. Minimum IT skills is mandatory for an office technician in a school.

Sports Technician

Gym technician or sports assistants are also categorized under this field. Sports technician's job is full of rigorous discipline and pressure. A sport technician requires to be a person of admirable personality, as she has to not only physically train the students, but also hone their skills and talents. So she has to be observant and trustworthy to be able to work in close quarters with kids and adolescents.

Skills Required

She should be adept in several sports and games. Physical training should be her forte. Other skills required are affable nature and unquestionable persona. She must impart training to students about first aid measures and safety issues.

  • Qualification: A degree in sports related area like physical training, sports education, sports psychology, sports studies or coaching, etc. is preferred. First aid training is a must.

Laboratory Technician

Laboratory technician has the job of assisting science teachers. Her priority should be the maintenance and upkeep of the laboratory. Inventory updates and supply management is the main duty in a lab. She has to aid the teachers and students in experiments and lab tests.

Skills Required

Knowledge related to chemical and hazardous materials is necessary in this job. The candidate is required to be well aware of the standard safety norms with regards to chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Qualification: A university degree in the science field is a must. For chemistry laboratory, knowledge regarding chemicals and chemical phenomena is required, therefore, a degree in chemical science is desirable.

Library Technician

Due to an increase in electronic books and data, maintenance of library and storage of books is no longer a one-man show. Librarians often need the support of a technician to handle the ever-increasing database of libraries. This job can be fun for a book-loving nerd, as she can spend most of her time in her favorite den.

Skills Required

Library requires an enthusiast for books and reading. Moreover, she should try to inculcate reading habit in the kids. Maintenance and updating of logs and records are prime responsibility of a library technician. She has to be handy in carrying and lifting of books too.
  • Qualification: Knowledge about online libraries and library automation system is a highly recommended. Each school may have its own software to deal with the library stock, therefore, sufficient knowledge regarding different types of software in this field is desirable. A degree in library management would also work for a school library.
  • Experience: Prior experience is preferred, but not compulsory.
  • Salary: 45,000 to 55,000 USD per annum
Most of the time, training is provided on the job field itself. However, there are many courses as well that give competent training in health and safety issues. A technician working in a lab has to wear protective clothing while working with chemicals.
