Sujata Iyer
The best jobs that pay 16 year olds reasonably well are the ones that do not distract them from their school work, but at the same time give them enough money to sustain themselves. Here are some of the best options that you may want to take a look at.
Being 16 is tough. Tough on the mind, tough on the heart and tough on the pocket. If you want to be self sufficient, independent, and not ask your parents for allowance, then the best solution to your money woes is to get a job.
And since you're young and fresh, there are plenty of avenues that you can explore. This article will share with you some of the most popular jobs that 16 year olds can opt for. You don't need to be an expert for any of them.
All you need is a lot of enthusiasm and the willingness to work hard for the money that you'll earn. And rest assured that when you get that paycheck (or cash) in your hand, you'll feel elated! Have a read and you'll be able to decide which one to choose.

Chain Store

There are a lot of retail stores, malls, specialized chain stores, etc., which insist on hiring young and energetic people. If you think you fit the (small) bill of requirements, then apply at any of these and earn yourself some good money.

Babysitting

If there's one classic job for a teenager, it's babysitting.
What better way to spend your evenings than taking care of a child when his parents are out. It is simple if you want it to be and can be a nightmare if you don't know how to handle kids. So think before you take it up. Once you get the hang of it, you can work out a schedule that works for you, your parents, the kid, and the kids' parents as well.

Cashier

Technically this may not be an easy job for a 16 year old, but it will earn you good money and teach you the importance of handling money well and instill in you a sense of responsibility.
Handling money is not as easy as it looks. It is a tremendously loaded job that requires honesty, character, discipline, and responsibility. So, if you want to learn all these, take up a job as the cashier at a boutique, bakery, mall, fast food joint, grocery store, supermarket, etc. So many options!

Coaching

If you're on one of the sports teams at school, why not turn this talent into a job?
Gather kids who are interested in the same sport that you play and begin coaching them after school. You have the experience, so why not make good use of it. Plus, by doing this, you get your own practice and you'll have little kids looking up to you.

Gift Wrapping

Every store at a mall offers gift wrapping services. If you think you have the manual dexterity and the creative streak to come up with fancy gift wrapping techniques, then take up a job as a gift wrapper. You get to show off your talent and also earn some money for it.

Tutoring

A good part-time job for a 16 year old is tutoring. It could be tutoring your own classmates, juniors at school or kids from your neighborhood.
Not only will you be earning money, but you will also be helping someone who probably isn't as good as you at a particular subject in school. Tutoring is a noble job. So go for it.

Errand Running

If it's just a summer job that you're looking for, then how about running errands for people in the neighborhood? Assign different days and times for different people. Make a list of everything that they need: groceries, medicines, gardening, books, paying bills, walking dogs, etc.
Organize your time well for this job. Everyone that you do this for will be immensely grateful to you. Make sure you have some mode of conveyance. This is one of the most helpful jobs that pays well and gives you a good level of mental satisfaction too.
Being independent at a young age is a wonderful feeling. So get a job, earn money and use it well. Good luck!
