Advertisement for the Job

The process starts with the employer advertising for the job openings in any or all newspapers and business magazines, on the internet and on their own website, in job fairs, or with an outsourced professional hiring agency. 
The advertisement will clearly mention the qualifications that the candidates need to possess in order to be eligible for the job. It will also mention the last date of the submission for the application form, resume, and cover letter, with the contact details of the organization.

Review of the Applications

After the candidates have submitted their job applications and resumes, the manager will review these to assess and ascertain which candidates meet the eligibility and have the required skills and talent to do the job well. The short-listed candidates are thereafter called for the interview.


The interview process may differ from organization to organization.
Usually, the first one to interview a candidate is the HR (Human Resources) manager. If, after interviewing the candidate, he feels that the candidate has caliber, a second interview with the manager is scheduled, under whom the candidate will be working in the organization.
The third interview is with the head of the department in which the candidate has applied for. And lastly, the candidate is interviewed by the CEO. However, if the organization is small, there might be just one or two interviews.
During interview, the candidate is asked about previous work experience, his future goals, his strengths, his weaknesses, etc. This is done by the employer in order to have an insight about the candidate's skills, capability and his overall personality. A candidate should always come prepared for the interview. He should wear well ironed, formal clothes.
One of the most useful job interview tips is that he should answer all the questions posed to him by the interviewer politely, with patience and a smile on his face. During the interview, the candidate is given a chance to ask anything he wants to know about the organization as well.

Background Checks

The last step involves the reference checks of the candidate. Employee background checks are done mainly to find out the opinion of the previous employers about the candidate's personal and professional behavior.
Some other checks that may be done are - past criminal records, drug screenings, credit card checks, as well as medical tests. These days, credit checks are becoming quite a norm in almost all industries, so for a candidate, maintaining a good credit record has become very essential.
After the entire process is complete, the employers get in touch with the selected candidates, any time between a day to a month of interviewing. The employers can take longer if the organization is big and there are lots of openings.
In such a case, the entire interview process, background checks, etc., will take time. If the employer has not gotten in touch with a candidate for two weeks after the interview, the candidate should always call up to follow.
Once the candidate is hired, his employee training begins. However, prior to that, the candidate should make sure that he has his birth certificate and social security number with him as most employers ask for these on the very first day of the job.
